Why use File Compressor

  • Private and secure

Your image is sent over an encrypted connection to our server in Europe and stored under a random ID. It is never shared with third parties or used to train AI. Download links expire after 60 minutes; files are then deleted automatically, normally within 75 minutes. Read the privacy policy

  • Honest results

Choose a quality preset or a target size. The result shows the exact size before and after, and says so if a file can't get any smaller.

  • Free, no sign-up

File Compressor is free with no account, no watermark and no ads. It works in any modern browser on phone or desktop.

In short

Choose a JPG or WebP image and File Compressor searches for the highest quality that stays at or under 200 KB (200,000 bytes). If quality alone isn't enough, it reduces the image's dimensions in steps. The result shows the exact size and says plainly if the limit couldn't be met.

How to use it

  1. Choose or drop a JPG or WebP image.
  2. Leave the target at 200 KB, or change it if your form uses a different limit.
  3. Select Compress file and wait a few seconds.
  4. Check the result size and the Target met badge, then download.

Where a 200 KB limit comes up

200 KB limits are common for profile pictures, marketplace listings, and forms that attach a scanned document as an image.

How the target is reached

Quality is searched first at full size; dimensions are only reduced when that can't reach 200 KB. Most photos fit at a width of 1200–1600 px.

Tips for a better result

  • Scanned text stays legible at lower quality than photos do; try Smaller file first.
  • If a portal also limits dimensions, set Maximum dimension in Advanced settings.

Questions

Will my image definitely end up under 200 KB?

Usually, but not always. Very large or detailed images may not fit without becoming too small. If the limit can't be met, you get the smallest valid result and an Above target label, never a false "met".

Can I use this for PNG files?

Not for a size target. PNG compression is lossless, so it can't be steered to an exact size. Use Compress PNG, or convert the image to JPG first if a photo is stored as PNG.

Does KB here mean 1,000 or 1,024 bytes?

1 KB = 1,000 bytes, which is how most upload forms count. The tool shows the exact byte count so you can compare with stricter limits.
