Image compressor

Make JPG, PNG and WebP images smaller while keeping them sharp.

Files are processed on our server in Europe. Download links expire after 60 minutes; files are then deleted automatically.

Why use File Compressor

  • Private and secure

Your image is sent over an encrypted connection to our server in Europe and stored under a random ID. It is never shared with third parties or used to train AI. Download links expire after 60 minutes; files are then deleted automatically, normally within 75 minutes. Read the privacy policy

  • Honest results

Choose a quality preset or a target size. The result shows the exact size before and after, and says so if a file can't get any smaller.

  • Free, no sign-up

File Compressor is free with no account, no watermark and no ads. It works in any modern browser on phone or desktop.

In short

The image compressor reduces JPG, PNG and WebP files in their own format: JPG with an optimized JPEG encoder, PNG losslessly (with optional colour reduction), and WebP with adjustable quality. JPG and WebP also support a target size. Photo metadata such as camera and location is removed, and transparency is kept.

How to use it

  1. Choose or drop an image (up to 100 MB), or import it from a link.
  2. Choose a quality preset, or a target size for JPG/WebP.
  3. Select Compress file.
  4. Check the result and download.

Which setting should I pick?

  • High quality: for photos you'll print or edit again.
  • Balanced: for websites, email and messaging. Differences are hard to spot at normal size.
  • Smaller file: for thumbnails and strict size limits.

What changes in your image

Pixels are re-encoded at the chosen quality; the dimensions stay the same unless you set a maximum dimension or a target that requires resizing. EXIF orientation is applied so the image looks the same everywhere, then metadata is removed. Animated images aren't supported yet, because the animation would be lost.

Questions

Does it keep PNG transparency?

Yes. Transparency is kept in both lossless and colour-reduced PNG output.

Can it convert PNG to JPG?

Not yet. Each image stays in its format so nothing changes unexpectedly.

Is location data removed?

Yes. EXIF, XMP and IPTC metadata (camera, GPS location, dates) are removed from the output. The colour profile is kept so colours don't shift.
