Compress PNG
Lossless first. Optional colour reduction for much smaller screenshots and graphics.
Files are processed on our server in Europe. Download links expire after 60 minutes; files are then deleted automatically.
Why use File Compressor
Private and secure
Your image is sent over an encrypted connection to our server in Europe and stored under a random ID. It is never shared with third parties or used to train AI. Download links expire after 60 minutes; files are then deleted automatically, normally within 75 minutes. Read the privacy policy
Honest results
Choose a quality preset or a target size. The result shows the exact size before and after, and says so if a file can't get any smaller.
Free, no sign-up
File Compressor is free with no account, no watermark and no ads. It works in any modern browser on phone or desktop.
In short
Compress PNG first re-compresses the image losslessly, so every pixel stays identical. If you allow lossy colour reduction, it converts the image to an optimized palette, which can shrink screenshots and flat graphics a lot but can add banding to gradients. Transparency is always kept. If the PNG is already optimal, you get the original back with 0% saved.

How to use it
- Choose a .png file.
- Optionally allow lossy colour reduction.
- Select Compress file.
- Download the optimized PNG.
Lossless vs colour reduction
Lossless optimization keeps the image identical and usually saves a modest amount. Colour reduction (palette quantisation) limits the image to at most 256 colours chosen for that picture; for UI screenshots and logos the difference is rarely visible, for photos stored as PNG it can be.
Photos saved as PNG
A photo saved as PNG is often several times larger than the same photo as JPG. If transparency isn't needed, saving it as JPG from your editor will shrink it the most.
Questions
Why is there no target size for PNG?
Lossless compression can't be tuned to a byte count. We won't pretend otherwise.
Is transparency preserved?
Yes, in both modes.
Are animated PNGs supported?
Not yet. They're rejected rather than silently reduced to a single frame.
